SPEAKING WITHOUT WORDS

"Since the dawn of modern humans, we have been able to create. Too many people live daily with the fundamental belief that they are not good enough, or interesting enough, or talented enough, to make art. This is rubbish."

MEET EMILY

Emily Jane Traynor has been a professional creative in different capacities for all of her ‘grown-up’ life. Living in Somerset with her family, with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Plymouth, Emily's work vibrates with the influence of her experiences of being a woman and a mother.

Emily has worked with diverse groups leading abstract art and communications workshops over the last decade, from teens with mental health challenges to public sector teams and C-suite individuals.

Emily's own art practice expresses primarily abstract forms in her contemplation of life and the human search for the sacred.

How to Abstract with Meaning...

So much can be communicated without a narrative or the drawing out of figurative forms. Just like a look or a touch, a breath or a smile can tell us so much more in an instant, by instinct, than stories weaved from words.

Abstract art is a way of connecting authentically with ourselves, our environment and others in the experience of being human. There are no expectations, no judgements and no limitations; just a few moments of ‘aliveness’, prompted by a piece of visual art.

Abstract art is subjective, but over the years Emily has many times been prompted to contemplate how to decipher meaning in abstract art, and how to imbibe an artwork with a sense of something 'more'.

This eBook is a colourful and heartfelt 83-page dive in seven adventures, into ways of creating and deciphering meaning in abstract art and through that... ourselves.
